If there was one style I'd love to have more of in my own home it would have to be eclectic boho. There is just something about how welcoming it feels. It's fuss free and so cozy. The furniture pieces generally have clean lines and lean more towards modern. The addition of warm wood tones throughout the room mixed in with pops of green give a real organic feel to the space. You can bring all sorts of color into the space through your textiles. We went with a more neutral palate for this project, but she could easily swap out some bright pillows or patterned curtains to give the room a completely different look.
These clients were so much fun to work with, they have great style and taste. They just needed a little help bringing it all together to make it feel cohesive with the rest of the house. Now they have a family room that fits their family's needs and feels complete. :)
First things first, we lightened it all up by painting the walls with Benjamin Moore's Simply White. This not only makes the room feel larger but also allows the decor to be the star. People are generally afraid of using white on walls because they believe it will make the space feel cold but when done right it has quite the opposite effect.
When you choose a neutral palate like we did, it's always good to add fresh floral (or faux if you weren't blessed with a green thumb). It completely changes the room. A couple sprigs of eucalyptus, succulents or even cactus are perfect choices.
Let's be honest, I love me some thrift store shopping and that's one of the reasons I'm drawn to this style. You can pick up all sorts of interesting pieces at flea markets, thrift stores, or your mama's basement. :) And guess what....those knick knacks work perfectly in this space. If you love books...perfect get them out and display them, have a collection of brass candlesticks...awesome that will work too! Whatever it is I'm willing to bet it would work in this space.
What room would be complete without the addition of some gold accents? It's a trend that I'm hoping is here to stay because I absolutely LOVE gold folks! It's the perfect way to tie a room together. Simply spread your gold accents throughout using candles, hardware, picture frames...what ever you got. If you don't have a lot of money in the budget to shop for new gold decor, just go get a can of gold spray paint and you are set to transform any old frame or vase into a new stylish decor piece. Voila, easy as that!
I'd love to hear your feedback on this family room makeover. What items are your favorites, is this a style you'd implement in your home? Hope you picked up some new helpful tips, happy decorating friends!
