The air is crisp, the smell of Christmas tree is filling our home and you better believe that I'm playing my favorite Christmas music round the clock these days! It's full on festive here at the Hanson household, and I LOVE it!!! How can you possibly be in a bad mood with twinkling lights and happy holiday music playing? I know some people think I go over board on decorating for the holiday's but it makes me and my family happy so I say, "Let the haters hate!" ;)
Today I've joined some of my favorite blogger friends to show you our homes all decked out for the holidays. I'm sharing my living room for part 2 of my Holiday Home Styling Series and this might just be my favorite room. This is were we put our real Christmas tree every year. I love sitting on my cozy oversized chair with the candles lit, fire burning and sipping my coffee while listening to Nat King Cole. I mean that right there is all this mama needs to unwind from the holiday hustle and bustle.
I carried the "Rustic Glam" theme from our dining room right into this room as well. I do love the traditional red during the holidays but for some reason I love to keep this space neutral and just play with texture more so than color. I want to people to feel drawn to this room for it's coziness. I use lots of soft throw pillows and blankets this time of year. I think that's the easiest way to make a home feel inviting and warm.
"Oh deer" let's talk about the mantle shall we? ;) I know this look isn't for everyone but I fell in love with this gorgeous deer bust and knew he'd be front and center for our holiday mantle this year. Another way I love to bring coziness to a space is by adding candles. They put off the most magical glow at night when they're lit. And I have a couple jar candles that are my favorite Christmas fragrances, some smell like pine and others smell like mom has been baking in the kitchen all day long. You know what they say, scent is the strongest link to memory!
I used old books to create different levels, and mixed antique candlesticks with various sized pillar candles to create a romantic but laid back atmosphere. I stuck a few sprigs of sparkly greenery to pop against all the white.
The tree! It's our family tradition to go out the day after Thanksgiving to pick the perfect tree and cut it down. This year we seriously walked 5 feet into the field and there she was! :) Typically we spend hours searching for our tree but not this time. I used lots of frosted sprigs and faux snow (pillow filling) to fill in any big holes. Then we dressed her up with metallic ball ornaments and lots of collected ornaments from over the years. I did leave off the star this year and went with these bronze/gold magnolia leaf sprigs to tie into the gold deer bust on the mantle.
Here are some other details I added to this space. Sometimes all you need is some greenery and sparkle to transform your home.
